Education Philosophy
A Hampton Cove Christian Academy, we do not believe an education is balanced or complete without God at its center. We do not believe teaching can be put in its proper perspective without the Word of God foremost in the classroom.
Is your child in a learning environment where Arts & Sciences are taught without also learning about the One who created the universe? Is your child studying about the history of the world, of men and nations without studying about the God who laid their very foundations? Is your child experiencing the literary classics without reading the best-selling book of all time, the Bible?
Bible-based Learning. HCCA firmly believes Biblical values are the foundation for all other learning. Taught in a narrative style, HCCA's Bible lessons reveal profound truths that flow from the Word of God, are woven through the heart of the teacher, into the heart of the student. Understanding this concept reinforces HCCA's dedication to employing only staff and teachers who have a calling to teach young people, on their life.
Reading. Teaching children to read and comprehend the Scriptures for themselves requires that they learn from Christian character-building reading materials that keep them engaged. HCCA utilizes sound phonics with beautifully illustrated and imaginatively written stories, carefully selected for theme, readability, and appeal.
From a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures… 2 Timothy 3:15
History. Since HCCA believes children require a realistic view of the world in which they live (history, government, economics, and geography), A Beka avoids teaching these subjects as a series of human conflicts; but instead, uses a truthful, uplifting portrayal of people, land, triumphs, setbacks, etc. that instills pride in country without apology.
Mathematics. A Beka teaches mathematics as a reflection of the glory of God, and the language He uses to create a beautiful, logical, orderly, and practical world. Instead of teaching math as a creation of man, HCCA teaches God as the Great Engineer and Architect of the Universe.
Science/Health. Careful not to teach science as many textbooks do, as the opposite of faith, HCCA teaches children science as a study in God's order, provision, and rationality.
English. As clearly stated in Jesus' Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), HCCA believes that in communicating God's truth to mankind, children must learn to carry out this goal in a fair, compassionate, and well-articulated manner. We teach our children that grammar, composition, vocabulary, literature, and spelling is more than a response to stimulus or an emotional outcry as taught by evolutionary theory in public schools, but instead, how God chose to communicate with us through our powers of thought and language.
Educational Philosophy Summarized. The following statements encapsulate HCCA's overall early childhood education philosophy, and we use this set of beliefs as a guide in everyday teaching:
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
- HCCA believes 'Excellence' is never an accident but the result of commitment and hard work on the part of teachers, parents, and students.
- HCCA believes in a balanced educational curriculum centered on the fundamental principles and truths of Christianity; and that includes science, music and art, history, geography, reading, and writing.
- HCCA believes in supporting the 'whole family'. This involves instilling and cultivating right values, which are also your values, in your child.
- HCCA believes that the concept of Christian character and leadership in our teachers, as well as their education and experience, is a valuable and inseparable part of our quality programs.
- HCCA believes in and expects integrity and accountability in our staff and in our programs.
- HCCA believes in using only the best, most rigorously challenging and proven Christian educational curriculum and materials. A Beka lies at the center of this learning system.
- HCCA believes technology provides children greater learning opportunities, and is effective in reinforcing and supplementing classroom instruction.
- HCCA believes a comprehensive, 'hands-on' approach to learning, and academic instruction in the classroom, teaches children how to apply practical thought to their personal experiences by putting things in the proper context of everyday life.
- HCCA believes in lower student/teacher ratios in order to provide more personalized instruction.
- HCCA believes in 'Success Oriented' teaching. By motivating students to become independent thinkers and self-starters, they also build confidence and improve self-image.
- HCCA believes in parental involvement as the key to strengthening and reinforcing spiritual and academic foundations in your child. This ultimately promotes future successes.
